Courts Have Contempt for the People They Serve
I was raised in an environment where people are forgiven their mistakes. A young girl age 18 gets pregnant. Though she is 18 she has the mental maturity of a 13 year old. The baby comes along, the father abandons and the girl is neither mentally prepared or financially prepared to take care of the child. Court comes and takes the child (a good thing). Girl is now 20 and wants to get her baby back. Court sets up criteria which includes a psychiatric evaluation which revealed girl is bi-polar and has the mental capacity of a 15 year old. Not the kind of person prepared to take care of a child. Furthermore, the court orders her to pay child support payments which she is willing an wants to do. However, she can't drive so her only alternative to go to work is to take the local bus service. So she gets a job at a local pizza parlor but gets fired because the local bus can't get her to work on time. Now she has no way to make her child support payment so the court throws her in jail for non payment. She borrows $300 to get out of jail and the court sees that in a negative way. Everyone knows we live in a period where it is hard for anyone to get a job much less someone who doesn't have a reliable way to get to work. Every job application asks the question do you have transportation to work. Does the count make any effort to help this mentally challenged girl? NO NO NO! No forgiveness here! All the court can do is tell her she has to pay the child support payments or go to jail. Now someone needs to explain to me how sending her to jail helps the situation. More tax money is spent to house and feed her which in the long run takes tax money away from caring for the child. I know the courts deal with a lot of dead beats and therefore their strict policies. This girl's mental challenge creates extenuating circumstances that the courts ignore. This in my opinion is contempt for the girl's need and rights by the courts. We citizens are not allowed to have contempt for the courts but the courts are allowed to have contempt for us. Here is what the courts should do: They should contact the father and order him to pay both child support and support for the girl. They should arrange for the girl to enter a mental counseling program and attempt to treat her to a level of maturity that would make her able to take care of the child. If they insist that she pays the court child support, they should provide her assistance in obtaining employment and transportation so she can make those payments. At the very least they could give her a job in the court's janitorial services and let her work off the child care there. Still, all this is not a solution. If the girl finds employment, it will most likely be minimum wage which will not change her situation of not being able to take care of the child. If they are successful in improving her mental maturity and give her the child back, she will not be able to care for the child while she is at work, and she will not be able to afford child care. So why is the government (Courts in particular) not helping this girl? I believe I know but it is just speculation but comes from my own observations. First off, the father is an illegal alien from Mexico which is another government failure that even our federal government doesn't want to deal with so they don't want to go after him for fear that they will appear politically incorrect. Second off, the foster parents who are caring for the child want to adopt the child and the courts have decided to make that easier to accomplish by taking advantage of a mentally challenged girl. Finally, the girl comes from a very dis functional family who has had a past history in the court system and the courts just have contempt for the entire family. This girl may never be able to reach a stage where she will get her child back and that may very well be the best thing for the child. But the courts will have failed the girl and will someday have to answer either politically or before God for that failure. My final comments: Jesus said if your neighbor wants your coat, take it off and give it to him, love your enemy, be good Samaritan's and do unto others as you would have them do unto you. The courts by law are no longer allowed to believe in Jesus and follow his teachings but even if you don't believe in him, these are good philosophies to follow. The governement and the courts believe they have the power to pass the laws they want and also make themselves exempt from those laws. READ THE ANIMAL FARM BY GEORGE ORWELL!

Judge Beating Daughter
The judge may have gone a little overboard but people have to put themselves in his position of frustration with a rebelling child. The sad thing here is that he was trying to correct her behavior and teach her there are rules that must be obeyed. She has now ruined his life and removed any chance of his teaching her to obey rules. She has also removed all chances of anyone correcting her behavior and has freed herself to to anything she wants when she wants and nobody can stop her. That is until she does something criminal and then she may find her punishment is a prison term. There she may be beaten over and over, raped, stabbed or worse killed. Someone needs to explain to me how being whipped with a belt is worse than prison. Which punishment is more abusive? My father exercised corporal punishment on me and I turned out fine and now that I'm 64 years old and see where my life has taken me, I thank him for every lash I received. I'm a better person for being taught to obey the rules of society. When you know what your punishment will be, fear of that punishment will in most cases keep you from doing the acts. If a person knows his/her punishment will be mild, that person will do the act and say it was worth the punishment. The press who run the story and society which is taking a condemning stand are responsible. If this girl turns out to be a bad apple, it is the press and society who are responsible not the father who tried to teach her through corporal punishment. Even Doctor Spock eventually recanted his opinion about no corporal punishment.

Moammar Gadhafi is Dead
Moammar Gadhafi is dead! It seems this should be a good thing but I'm wondering what we will get in his place. All the turmoil in the world today make me wonder if things are not being set up for the new world order of the appocolypse

Government Shutdown Threat Again???
We don't need a government shutdown! We need to shutdown Congress! These guys are playing the American People for FOOLS!
We the people of the United States of America, need to begin a campaign to vote all encumbent Members of Congress out of office. They have no interest in what is good for us, only what is good for them. They couldn't agree that the sky is blue or grass is green. Republicans and Democrats alike have lost their ability to represent the people of America. Some times I wonder if the Comunist of the world haven't financed the election of these people to office with the specific goal of bringing down this great nation.

Execution of Cop Killer
Several witnesses testified under oath during the trial which resulted in the guilty verdict and thus the death sentence. Now several years later the witnesses are recanting their testimony. Are they admitting now that they committed perjury during the trial? If so, they have created a situation where it's possible an Innocent man was put to death. Why then, are prosecutors not seeking charges against these witnesses who are recanting?
Regardless, if anyone is responsible for a miscarriage of justice in this case, it is the witnesses who are now recanting!

Power Outages
We have had so many power outages in my neighborhood recently that caused me to go buy a generator. Yesterday, power went out and I waited an hour for it to come back on before I pulled out the generator and started it up. Ran all the extentions and just as I started plugging things in, the power came back on. Not complaining about the effort exerted to pull out the generator. Just glad the power came back on! Wonder why the power company is having so much trouble keeping the power going. I understand when there's a big huricane or snow storm but yesterday there was nothing.

US Economic Recovery
The government put billions of dollars into bailing out the banks! Those banks have paid back most of that money, so now put that money into, I suggest that a new automobile be developed that gets 50 mpg or better and set up the infrastructure to build it. I believe this can be done with Turbo Diesel Technology. No parts of the automobile will be built outside the United States so if you can't get it here now, build a factory to make it. Make all the factories non union but pay all employees a fair wage with benefits.
Once produced, give incentive to buy the product. Forgo sales taxes when purchased or forgo property taxes for the first 3 years of ownership. Offer free service for the first two years.

Mortgage System Illness
There is something seriously wrong with the American Mortgage system. My home owner's insurance did not go up, my property taxes did not increase, my interest is 30 year fixed rate, yet my mortgage payment increased by $60 per month this year. It increased last year as well. I believe that the 535 members of congress and the president of the United States have sold us out to big business and special interest. We need to begin a campaign to vote all incumbents out of office and start over. This seems to be the only way to send them the message that they work for us and not the rich, famous and big business. Voting them out of office is the only weapon we have to get control of our country back into our hands!
Pledge of Allegiance
Those people who want to ban the pledge in schools do not belong in this country! If you want to live here and take advantage of the freedom this country offers you have to have some sense of patriotism toward the country. If they love their country so much why did they leave and come here. Not teaching our children patriotism will lead to no patriots willing to fight the overthrow of America when overthrow begins. They will then be complaining about the injustices they face because they destroyed patriotism and American freedoms. The flag of this country stands for everything the country has to offer and without allegiance to it and the country there is no way the country can survive.

Obama's Job Package
Just stuff that's already been tried and didn't work. Need to give incentives to all the companies that are sending their manufacturing needs to other countries to meet their manufacturing needs from USA SOURCES. Americans also need to demand that what they buy is US made by Americans. That's hard to do. I recently tried to by clothes from J.C. Penny's and asked for american made and clerk said they don't have anything. Someone needs to tell me why that is. Are there any factories in US making clothing?
One place Obama might start if the military. Restrict contractors from using foreign suppliers. To steal from Bruce Springsteen, in stead of Born in the USA, I want to see and hear MADE IN THE USA. I'll buy that!!!

Grandson's Second Day of School

Idea for Job Creation
In the last decade many factories have replaced human jobs with automation. Now I know that automation in most factories speeds up the process and is in some cases cheaper. Why are we in such a hurry anyway? Let Congress pass a restriction for new factories that limits the amount of automation the factory can have. Hire more people to do the work.
Also bring back all the work sent to Mexico and China. I know this means we will have to pay more for the goods. But if we don't, we will have to pay more in taxes. Money we don't have because we don't have a job. So you say if we don't have a job we don't pay taxes, humbug every thing you do is taxed, I'm surprised that the government hasn't levied a tax for every time you make love to your spouse!

Obama Jobs Plan
I havn't seen the plan yet and don't know if it's good or bad. However, the most important issue in America today is the economy and getting people back to work! The Republicans know this so why did they even consider asking the President to delay his anouncement until after their debate? This just proves they have no interest in the country and the people who put them in office and only want to promote their own agenda. An now there is concern the it may compete with NFL opening season games. What is wrong with people? Is football more important than getting a job?
Post Irene Damage and Experience
Power went out about 10:30 PM Saturday the 27th and came back on 7:30 PM Tuesday the 30th. My wife has sleep apnia and uses a CPAC machine so she rented a motel room while the power was out. I purchased a small generator which allowed us to save most of our perisable food.
A large tree down the street took out the power and all the neighbors got together and cut away enough of the tree to open the street. I lost two trees on my property but there was no damage. Bigest problem was picking up the broken limbs and trash left behind. I removed about three bushels of trash from my pool.
It's now Thursday and so far no disasters this week. Maybe it's over!!!

Hospital Evacuations
Watching CNN yesterday running story about NY evacuating hospitals in lower Manhattan. CNN Anchor seem critical of the official's decision to evacuate hospital insinuating that it was an over reaction. We can't critisize such decisions. The CNN Anchor would be the first to ask "Why didn't you evacuate those people?" if they didn't and people were injured or killed.
Irene
Huricane Irene over Outer Banks now supposed to get here in about 4 hours. Already raining steady. I put everything I could inside and tied down what I could. Think everything will be ok but worry about power going out. Since we are on a well which relies on electricity to provide water, we are filling the bath tubs so we can flush the toilets. Bought lots of bottled water and filled two 5 gal water cans. Have a camp stove and lots of gas canisters so we won't go hungry. If power goes out for an extended period, we may lose food in frig and freezer. I experienced price gouging yesterday. Couldn't find large 6 v batteries and went to local hardware store which had one left and charged me $16.95 for a single battery.

Hurricane Irene
Well, just had an earthquake! Now, a hurricane! We have been very lucking in our area dodging such disasters. Guess it must our turn. Went to purchase batteries, all stores sold out of D Cells and 6 volt flashlight batteries. Bought lots of water and dry goods in case the power goes out. Wish us luck!!!
Earthquake
I was standing in the kitchen putting ice cream in the blender making a milkshake for my grandson Ayden when the shaking started. Was just grabbing Ayden to get out of the house when it stopped. Shook my house violently for about 40 seconds and knocked dishes over in the china closet and broke one teacup. Had to straighten all pictures hanging on the wall. Living on the east coast, thought I would never experience an earthquake. Hope I never experience another one!
Goodbye to Mike Flannigan
Sad day today. Mike was a great ball player. Too bad someone didn't see this coming and help him out. Just saw him calling a game last week and not a hint he was depressed.

National Lottery
A National Lottery could raise a lot of money to pay off the National Debt. Weekly drawing with the winner getting a $5,000,000.00 Tax free cash award which is transferable to heirs. Biggest problem is getting it past the religious sects and the Republicans who say no to everything.
Thank You CNN
Finally reporting on crisis in Somalia. News worth reporting that people need to know about and try to do something to keep children from starving to death.

National Debt
I can understand the Congress hesitating to increase taxes. I don't want to see taxes increased because I think I pay more than my fair share now. Also if taxes are increased, we all know that the Congress will have add on bills that direct some of the increases to their pet projects!! MORE SPENDING!! I am not apposed to collecting more from the rich but believe a restructuring of the tax law is a better approach. A flat tax on every dollar earned should be imposed on everyone except those in poverty level. Let it be fair though!! The same percentage for the rich as for the middle class and no deductions for anything.
Now I believe the American people are willing to help reduce the deficit and pay off the Debt. If the Congress would pass a measure that would protect the money and restrict it's use to paying off the Debt and not used for any other project, a fund could be set up that allows the American people to donate money on a voluntary basis and used only the help with the debt. If every American donated just $5, I estimate it could raise close to a trillion dollars each year that would go directly to paying off the principle of the debt. Any such law would also have to ban the Congress from borrowing against the money collected.

Senate Plan to Resolve National Debt and Debt Ceiling
The Senate's stonewalling on a resolution via filibuster or any other means, leads me to believe they have a solution to introduce but are going to wait until the last hour to introduce it. Everyone else will be forced to go along with their plan to prevent the country from going into chaos. Good tactic but leave no choice for debate. Good way to force your desires on the rest of the country. What's next? Marxism?

End of Space Shuttle
Sad day for me! I think NASA is making a mistake ending the Shuttle program, but I understand they want to focus what little funding they have on new programs. I like the idea of landing men on an asteroid and a return to the moon and eventually a mission to Mars. I thing NASA made a mistake when they ended the Apollo program. If they had continued to go to the moon, they may have discovered how to gather and return helium3 to earth and solve our energy problems.
I don't want to appear too critical of NASA because they are doing a great job of pioneering the solar system and the universe. History shows us that pioneering is done in small steps that lead to large advances for mankind. I don't believe man will ever achieve the space travel of Star Trek but I do believe man will someday travel the solar system mining resources from the planets, moons and asteroids.
We should not be too concerned over the expense of a space program because the investment could pay of big someday. Look at the Louisiana purchase, the purchase of Alaska, the building of the Union Pacific Railroad and Panama Canal as examples of pioneering paying off big from large investments.

New Band Wagon for CNN
The News Corp scandal seems to be dominating CNN reporting today. CNN seems to have jumped on the band wagon to bring down the executives of News Corp and it's subsidiaries. There are more important things going on in the world today than newsmen tapping peoples phones. Newsmen are all think they are God's gift to the world and will do anything or destroy any company or person to advance their status in the industry.
More important issues are Somalia refugees, US Economic crisis, Iraq, Iran, Yemen, Egypt, Libya, US Mexican border and the war on drugs.
A better story might be to find out which newsmen in the US are doing the same thing to US citizens.

Treatment and Cure for Homosexuality and Other Conditions of the Mind
I for one believe curing homosexuality can't be done, but recent news stories report that there are clinics that try, and claim they can. In the report a psychologist indicated that it is not really possible to change because sexual preference is built into the individual. I believe this to be true but the psychologist's comments raises a question in my mind. Pedophilia is built into the individual just like homosexuality but they are supposedly cured and released back into society all the time and in many cases prey again. If homosexuality can't be cured, neither can pedophilia and pedophiles should be locked away for ever.
An additional note regarding insanity pleas to avoid prison. The only insanity plea I find legitimate is a crime committed in the heat of passion such as finding someone raping your daughter and killing him. That rage could make a person temporarily insane. The man who shot Rep. Gabrielle Gifford should not be allowed to refuse medication in order to avoid prosecution. Did he refuse is medication before the crime occurred? If he did refuse, he should have been immediately confined to a mental institution! All those poor people would be alive and uninjured. I know it's expensive to confine someone but how many people have to die before the realization that these people can't be allowed roam free in our society.

Do Nothing President and Congress
The debate between the democrats and republicans regarding the debt ceiling makes me sick. They remind me of the religious sects of the world who preach that if you don't conform to their way you will burn in hell because their way to the only right way. They, the congress and administration, got us into this mess by trying to solve all the problems of the world while ignoring the problems at home. They let politics rule what they do and think nothing of the people they represent. It's time to step up and get us out of this mess. Bring all the jobs they have provided to Mexico, China and others home. Get America producing again!
They are scaring Americans to death with their rhetoric and threats that Social Security Checks will not go out if they don't raise the debt ceiling. If they don't come to a resolution, Social Security Checks will be the least of their worries. If things are this dire the members of congress should give up their salary before any American loses anything. They won't do that though and there is probably some secret law on the books that says if the country goes bankrupt the Treasury will continue to pay their salaries. They have exempted themselves from every other law so why not bankruptcy.
If the congress does not get themselves straight and start doing their jobs and ignoring special interest and political lobbies, they are going to find Americans rioting in the streets like Greece, Egypt and Yemen. They are very likely to get themselves voted out of office. My proposal to my fellow Americans is vote against any candidate who is currently in office. Vote out the incumbents!!!

Auto Insurance Regulations Need to Change
I learned today that the State of Maryland allows insurance companies to exclude family members from driving your car unless you pay additional premiums. My son is 27 years old and lives 50 miles away from me, has his own car and his own insurance. He pays a high premium because he has a several points on his license. My insurance company the Hartford told me I had to sign an exclusion agreement or pay an extra $100 per month in premiums in order to be covered if he drives my car. I also have to exclude my daughter in-law because she lives in my house, or pay an extra $60 per month in premiums. She also has her own car and insurance. She does not pay a high premium because she has never had a ticket or accident. The $60 per month is more than she pays her insurance company for full coverage on herself and her husband.
Maryland regulations are such that if I loan my car to my next door neighbor, and he has an accident the Hartford will cover the losses because the insurance is on the vehicle and not the driver as long as he has a valid drivers license and regardless of his driving record. It's not fair that I can provide more to my neighbor than the my own family. I am 64 years old and have been driving for 48 years. In that time I have had two tickets and 4 fender benders, 2 of which were my fault. Still my insurance premiums are about the same as my younger son who has had one accident and several tickets.
This may seem petty to anyone reading this but think about the logic. I can loan my pick up truck to my neighbor who has a bad driving record and be covered. However, I can't loan my pick up truck to my son or my daughter in-law because I am unwilling to pay an addition $160 per month in premiums.
The state regulators for automobile insurance need to seriously think about changing these regulations so that you only have to purchase insurance for the vehicle and it be covered regardless of who drives it.

Casey Anthony Case
The not guilty verdict is unbelievable but apparently the prosecution just did not do it's job! On the other hand it seems that her lies should have led to another charge of child neglect and endangerment. If you can assume for a moment that she did not kill her daughter, the fact that she intentionally led the fervently searching police on a wild goose chase, constitutes neglect and endangerment. If Caylee had been alive as Casey was insisting, during these lies, police were hindered from finding her by the lies she told that sent them searching elsewhere.
We all know that Caylee was dead and Casey knew she was dead. As a mother, Casey should have been frantic and doing everything she could to help the police find Caylee. Instead she tried to lead police away from suspicion of herself.
Even if the story that Caylee's death was due to an accidental drowning were true, a mother's first response should be to call 911 in hopes that Caylee could be revived.
It makes me sick to think that Casey may now become a millionaire from book and movie deals. Additionally , every talk show host in America will want to increase their ratings by having Casey as a guest.
I believe this is a horrible travisty of justice. Poor Caylee deserves better from us!

American Priorities Need to Change
There are many problems in the American economy and Congress just doesn't seem to have the answers to fix them. One of the many problems that seems to be overlooked is education. In fact, when things are going bad, the first place to get budget cuts is education. I believe that there is a lot of intelligence in America's children but they are not getting the chance to get the education that would provide them with the ability to excel. America needs to ask itself some questions.
How many potential doctors who could provide the world with a cure for many of the diseases we suffer, are killed on the streets of our cities? How many children in America are not given their full measure of support in pursuing an education because they are locked in poverty? How many potential great economist are unable to get the education required for them become great economist?
America's priorities for the disbursement of tax dollars are misplaced. Only the rich have the money to get a good education. They attend private schools from elementary to high school with special tutoring to ensure they can get into the best colleges and in many cases, never use what they have learned. Public schools which are lacking in both the right teachers and money to provide our children a chance to excel are just not good enough.
So, here is a proposal for you America! Take the ten billion dollars you are currently giving to Pakistan and inject it into America's public school system. Doing so will help prevent Pakistan from haboring enemies like Osama bin Laden and although it's not a lot of money, ten billion dollars would certainly be welcome in America's education system.
I'll bet if we search our souls, we can find many other such expenditures that could be re-directed. It doesn't seem like much but just maybe if we start educating all of our children and not just the rich, some great minds will emerge who can solve our problems.
America has federal colleges but the main focus of these colleges is military leadership. If we are so willing to invest so much to ensure military leadership why can't we establish federal colleges that focus on leadership in areas like economy, medicine, business and job creation?

Rape Victims Actions Worse than the Victimizer
I am by nature a pessimistic and suspicious person. My suspicious mind came alive today with the story of the International Monetary Fund executive being released and the possibility of all charges being dropped in the rape case of his hotel maid. It seems suspicious that the case was so solid a few weeks ago but suddenly (even though evidence indicates she was raped) her reputation is so tainted that she must have deserved to be raped.
This whole thing reeks of pay offs. This man had so much money that he could rent his own luxury jail cell. How can people not be suspicious that he has paid the right people to build a case that his rape victim was worse than he is. Even the press who is usually suspicious of every thing, now seem to be on his side. There is no push to find the truth, even though what is being reported may be the truth. The press usually will not let up until the truth comes out. They question everything!
I will be very suprised if history doesn't reveal that the rich executive paid off government officials, lawyers, the victim and the press to make the charges go away. This revelation will only come after he has retreated to a place where extradition is not possible!

Watch Out for Those Diaper Bombs
I must really be screwed up. I say this because it is really strange to me that Muslims can wear attire that only reveals their eyes and you really don't know if there is a man or woman under there, but an elderly woman can't wear an adult diaper. How many Muslims have blown things up and killed people? How many little old ladies have blown things up and killed people? If there are some little old ladies going around blowing things up with diaper bombs, then the press and the government are covering it up!

A Successful Media Campaign by CNN
Well, you manged it! You just wouldn't let up on Congressman Wiener until he resigned. Congratulations, but where were you when Congressmen were caught having sex with 17 year old pages? I Guess thats just not severe enough to require a resignation. Let's see where you are on the next sex scandal that occurs in congress.
US Economy
A recent news item aired that described the room at Treasury where the daily borrowing of trillions takes place. This was a scary report which indicated that if the debt ceiling is not raised, we will be bankrupt by August. This is late June and as we all know our good and faithful congress takes almost two years to establish a federal budget. So if they are working on this issued now as I am sure they are, at the rate they do business, we will go bankrupt and they will still be trying to figure out what to do.
What was more scary was who is lending us the money. China, a communist country, a political philosophy that we spend millions in dollars and thousands in lives to abolish so that democracy can prevail. How can we try to impose democracy on others in the world when we are selling ours to communist interest?
Troop Withdrawal and the Economy
Now that Bin Laden is dead there is a big push to bring the troops home. It is a good idea to bring the troops home from Afghanistan but the Pentagon should be considering bringing our troops home from all deployments. If our care about nothing/do nothing congress doesn't do something about the economy and the national debt, our country stands a good chance of going bankrupt in August. If this happens, we may not have the money to bring our troops home. Our troops could be cut off in foreign countries with no future pay checks, no future supplies and no future support. How many of them do you think will die if that happens? What will happen to their families?
Americans seem to think that things like this could never happen to this big powerful country but they just don't realize the danger we face with the economy and national debt.

Palin's Emails
My grandfather always said if you had skeletins in your closet and didn't know about them, just run for political office and you will find them all. News reporters will spend thousands to find your skeletins for you. Todays example, Sara Palin's Emails. Reporters, before you start throwing stones, you had better check your own emails and delete those that may humiliate you. Ok, Sara wanted a tanning bed in the Governor's Mansion. So what, who cares, it's not like she can go to the local tanning salon without the press waiting out front to ask her why she wants a tan. It's not her personal tanning bed, it would belong to the people of Alaska. People are dieing in the world, very bad things are happening in the world, thats what you should be reporting. You need to change your priorities!

Do Politicians Ever Not Lie When Cought in the Wrong
CNN Reporters will not let the story of Congressman Weiner's photo scandal go. Did Mark Foley admit to the accusations made against him from the start? Did Dan Crane admit to having sex with a 17 year old page from the start? Did Gerry Studds admit to having sex with a page from the start? CNN Reporters, you are apparently being urged by political interest to continue this story until Weiner resigns. If you continue this march, you will be sending a message that it's ok to have sex with underaged pages because you get to keep your job. However, you better not send nude photos over the internet or we will come get you. Find a more interesting story to report!
Question for CNN
Didn't anyone get killed in a war or polical uprising today? Did no one starve to death? Did no children get abused? Were there no horrific accidents anywhere in the world? Apparently this newsworthy stuff just stopped today. I say this because the major stories you are reporting are Sara Palin's E-mails and Congressman Weiners sending lewd photos and lieing about it. You CNN reporters need to find more important and more interesting stories to report!

MBA Verses Medical Degree
This comment is not the result of a news story but a personal experience. I recently had to go to the emergency room with an abdominal problem. During that visit a CT scan was administered which diagnosed my problem and the problem was treated and resolved. However, after reading the CT scan the Radiologist discovered small spots on the bottom of my right lung and recommended another CT scan of my chest to determine if I have a more serious problem with my lungs. I made an appointment with my primary physician to schedule the CT scan, only to find out that my primary physician could not provide the referral without first obtaining permission from my insurance company. Since when does an MBA managing an insurance company know more about a person's health and the care he/she needs than a Medical Doctor? This puts me in the position of having to trust a non Medical Doctor with my health and maybe my life. I thought Obama Care was supposed the do away with this kind of influence over the Medical Doctor's practice.

Temporay Insanity
Since a judge has ruled that you can purchase temporary insanity from your local convenience store, the FDA should be pulling power drinks off the shelf so no more fathers are murdered by their sons. When are people going to start taking responsibility for their actions rather than blaming something or someone else for them. Better still, when is society going to start holding them responsible. Doesn't the judge know that he sets a president where every Tom, Dick and Harry who does something wrong can blame it on Redbull.

Sexting verses actual sex.
In 1983 two congressmen were censured for having sex with a 17 year old Congressional Page. There was a call by members to expel them from office but the final outcome was censure. In 2006 a congressman was investigated for sending sexually related emails to former pages and the final outcome was his resignation. Now a congressman is being investigated for having sexually related conversations and photo exchanges with women through a social network. He will not resign so there is a push to expel him. In my opinion all should be expelled but the more likely outcome will be dictated by the opinions of the press and who they are. However, the message this conveys is that it is OK for a public figure to actually have sex but he better think twice before doing something online. The reality of the matter is that the outcome of all these events are politically driven. In 1983 the members had sufficient friends and influence in congress to save their careers. In 2006, the congressman lacked those friends and influence. Now, I believe the congressman has enemies that have found a way to get him out of congress and are using this event as the weapon. The point to be made here is that all should be treated the same, punishment should be the same for all. Either censure or expulsion. We all know that there will similar events in the future and congress needs to decide now that all cases will be handled the same and no one gets special treatment because he is rich, powerful or has friends in high places.
Does the Government really want Americans to use less gas?
I don't believe they do. It is not in their interest for us to use less gas. Each gallon of gas purchased creates a tax revenue for the government. If they really did want us to use less, they would take simple steps to help us reduce our consumption. An example is the simple matter of synchronizing traffic signals so that we can move along smoothly with out stopping at every traffic signal. In my area I spend up to a minute sitting at a traffic signal waiting, while the next signal up ahead is green, only to have that signal turn red when the signal I'm currently waiting for, turns green. Again signals at streets that cross one another, allow traffic to fill the intersection so that when the signal finally changes so that I can go, I still have to wait another 30 to 40 seconds until the traffic clears the intersection. This is poor management by Government Officials who are responsible for traffic patterns. In Europe there are cities that have synchronized traffic signals and changing signs that inform the driver to drive a certain speed and the signal will in most cases be green and allow him to continue through the city without stopping. Similar systems in the US could save a lot of gas but it would cost the Government money to install them plus they would lose gas tax revenue. Could this mean there is really no shortage of gas?
